The Tamil Nadu government is set to begin the appointment process for 2,642 doctors across the state, with counselling sessions commencing on February 12. Health Minister Ma Subramanian announced that appointment orders will be issued promptly following the counselling.
An examination was conducted on January 5, in which approximately 24,000 doctors participated. From these, over 2,500 candidates were selected based on their performance. Subsequently, an additional 89 doctor vacancies were identified in various departments, bringing the total to 2,642 positions.
The evaluation process has been completed, with additional merit points awarded to those who served during the COVID-19 pandemic. Doctors with two years of service during the pandemic received five points; those with 18 months received three points; and those with one year of service were given two points.
The counselling process is scheduled to conclude on February 15, after which doctors will be assigned to their preferred locations. This initiative aims to ensure that all government hospitals in Tamil Nadu are adequately staffed, thereby strengthening the state's healthcare infrastructure.
