Doctors in Maharashtra have achieved a major medical milestone by successfully removing an unusually large prostate using robotic-assisted surgery. The procedure was carried out at a Mumbai hospital on a 70-year-old patient whose prostate had grown nearly 20 times larger than its normal size due to a benign condition.

The prostate weighed around 550 grams, making it one of the largest ever removed through robotic surgery. The operation was led by a senior urologist and performed using an advanced robotic system, which helped doctors operate with high precision despite the complexity of the case.

The patient had been suffering from severe urinary problems and repeated infections for several years. His condition was further complicated by existing health issues, including heart-related concerns, which made traditional open surgery risky. Doctors opted for a robotic approach to reduce complications and improve recovery.

According to the medical team, robotic surgery allowed better control, clearer visibility and minimal blood loss compared to conventional methods. The patient recovered well after the procedure and showed significant improvement in symptoms.

Doctors said the successful surgery highlights the growing role of robotic technology in handling complex medical cases in India and could encourage its wider use in advanced urological treatments.
