Doctors in Bengaluru have reported a noticeable increase in respiratory infections with the onset of the monsoon season. They say influenza and human metapneumovirus (hMPV) are currently the most common viruses affecting residents, replacing Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), which was more dominant in previous years.
Health experts are urging people, especially children, the elderly, and those with weak immunity, to be cautious. They recommend timely vaccinations, maintaining hygiene, and avoiding crowded places to reduce the risk of infection. Doctors also advise seeking immediate medical care if symptoms such as fever, cough, or breathing problems persist.
Authorities have also highlighted the risks linked to bird droppings, which can contribute to the spread of respiratory illnesses. Public health officials are encouraging residents to keep surroundings clean and avoid areas with bird droppings to prevent seasonal infections from worsening.
