Doctors working in government medical colleges across Kerala have decided to boycott outpatient (OP) services on Monday, intensifying their protest against the state government’s delay in addressing their long-pending demands. The protest is being led by the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA).

The association said that despite several discussions with officials, the government has not taken any meaningful steps to resolve issues such as salary anomalies, pending arrears, and shortage of teaching staff in medical colleges. The doctors had earlier staged demonstrations and symbolic protests, but now they plan to stop OP services as a stronger warning.

The boycott will be carried out in all government medical colleges, and regular academic activities such as theory classes and meetings will also be suspended on the protest day. Emergency and inpatient services, however, will continue as usual to avoid inconvenience to critical patients.

KGMCTA leaders stated that the government’s indifference has forced them to take this step. They warned that if their concerns remain unaddressed, they will intensify the strike in the coming days, which could seriously affect healthcare and medical education across the state.
